How to Make A Diaper Bouquet

Photobucket

Remember this beauty from the Sugar and Spice baby shower?

Here is a step by step on how to make one yourself.

Materials I used:

Vase (I bought this wide mouthed vase at Ikea for $.79)
Diapers- Preferrably white (I used about 40 Pampers Swaddlers newborn size)
Foam Ball (I used a 4" diameter)
Foam block
Wooden Skewers
Clear elastic bands (I use the Goody brand clear hair elastics)
Tulle
Tissue Paper
Lace
Ribbon
Glue Gun

**Note: Amount of diapers used will depend on how big your foam ball is, the size diapers you use, and how closely you place them together.**

Step 1:
Prepare the Vase
I Took the foam block and cut it so it fit inside

Photobucket

I stuck one of the wooden skewers through the foam block and snapped it so only  about 3.5 inches were sticking out the top

Photobucket

Then placed the foam ball on top.

Photobucket

You may need to adjust the foam block size so that the foam ball sits perfectly inside the mouth of the vase

Photobucket

Once I had it nice and cozy I took it all out then lined the inside of the vase with tissue paper and replaced the foam.

Step 2:
Prepare the Diapers

First roll each diaper up, starting at the open end, and ending at the folded end like so.

After it's rolled, wrap a clear elastic around it to keep it together.

Photobucket

Then stick the skewer through the rolled diaper.

Step 3:
Arrange
Now, beginning at the top and working your way out, stick the skewers into the foam ball.

I found the skewers to be too long, so I broke each skewer before sticking it in leaving about
3-ish inches from bottom of diaper roll to tip of the skewer.

Photobucket

Now it should look like this

Step 4:
Embelish!

We need to hide the foam ball in between each diaper roll.
Start by cutting out squares of tulle.

Photobucket

Then fold together and place in between each diaper roll.

Photobucket

I glue gunned on a little lace and ribbon to the base of the vase to make it match it's fancy contents.

Photobucket

And VOILA!!

******** UPDATE********
After making a bunch of these I have found that it is easier to cut the tulle and after I rolled the diaper onto the skewer, I stabbed the skewer through the middle of the tulle and then stuck it through the foam ball.
Keeps everything uniform and the tulle stays in it's place.

    1. Excellent question!!
I used around 40 (give or take depending on how close together you place the diapers, and how big your foam ball is).
I'll add that info into the tutorial to give everyone an idea of how many diapers to purchase.
      Thanks!

  7. Does it have to be a wide mouthed vase or can it be a cylinder style vase?

    1. It can be any vase you want. The mouth only has to be wide enough to hold the the foam ball in place. You can also hot glue the foam ball to the mouth if the fit seems precarious and you want to give it a little extra hold so it doesn't fall apart, however this will make it so the vase is pretty much non re-usable.

    1. If you're worried about the tulle coming out using these instructions, you can use the technique I used in the potted diaper boquet tutorial: http://likemomandapplepie.blogspot.com/2012/07/diaper-bouquet-potted-plant.html
and the baby boy diaper bouquet: http://likemomandapplepie.blogspot.com/2013/03/baby-boy-diaper-bouquet.html
where after I rolled the diaper around the skewer, I stabbed the skewer through the middle of the tulle square and then stuck it into the foam ball.

  10. when my niece recently married I made her a toilet paper wedding cake. It was so cute and very special between us. she always came to borrow a roll of toilet paper when she lived close and I would tell her she could keep it I didn't want it back! LOL! Now she is pregnant and I wanted to send something equally unique for the baby but I ran out of time. She lives out of town but I'm going to try making this and sending it to her snail mail when the baby arrives! I wish I had seen your idea sooner as I would have made the time for last weeks baby shower! I love this idea as it is for the mom and the baby! I may use a larger size as it's going on 2 years and she still has the toilet paper cake! thanks for an out of the box idea!

  15. Hi,
I loved ur tutorial and few months back made one too. M planning to mk another one sometime soon. However the 1st time i made them, the diapers kept falling off. Am I missing something here or should do something in a different way? Should I use hotglue to stick the skewers to the styrofoam ball?

    1. My skewers were about 6-8-ish inches long after a snapped them off. Roughly half of that had the newborn size diaper wrapped around it (the whole length of the rolled diaper), the other 4 full inches were stabbed into the styrofoam ball. When you stab the skewers in, do it as straight as possible, without wiggling, and don't try to reposition it once you've stuck it in, as this loosens the hole area. I think I've made about 100 of these this way and have never had any of the diapers fall off. Just be sure that you have enough length of skewer in the diaper, and inside the styrofoam ball. Best of luck and happy creating!

  18. We tried them and we were impressed with the softness, absorbency and fit. Since the twins are premature, they're a bit small so getting the right diaper fit is a challenge. Baby diaper
